I am a sophomore at Walter Payton College Prep with a deep passion for live theater and storytelling. Whenever I can, I enjoy seeing musicals both on Broadway and at my local theater. To further my passion for theatre, I’ve also been actively involved in stage productions. My favorite role has been portraying Chris in The Play That Goes Wrong, a comedy known for slapstick humor, absurd situations, and all-round chaos. Beyond the stage, I’ve also been shaped by my time in policy debate. Each summer, I’ve had the privilege of attending a 7-week debate institute at the University of Michigan to fully immerse myself in an activity I love and advance my skills before the debate season begins. Throughout the year, I travel across the country to compete in national debate tournaments. This experience has not only sharpened my critical thinking and communication skills, but also opened my eyes to the various social, economic, and physical barriers that prevent people with disabilities from being fully recognized and included in the mainstream. This understanding combined with my passion for theater inspired me to create a platform for real change.
With this knowledge and renewed commitment in mind, I started LaughAbility, a non-profit organization built on the core idea that storytelling, laughter, and human connection are essential, and that everyone deserves access to joy, regardless of their ability, background, or circumstance. Our mission is simple but powerful: we want to make everyone laugh.
Most comedic performing arts are not catered to or curated for individuals with diverse cognitive and neurodivergent conditions. This can include people with Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, or with Down Syndrome — as well as the elderly, those with auditory processing disorders, visual processing disorders, or other sensory or physical challenges. LaughAbility is dedicated to changing that.
Our goal at LaughAbility is to create inclusive comedic experiences, such as performances, workshops, and events, that celebrate diversity and gives everyone access to the healing and connecting power of laughter. We want to raise awareness of this gap and to help bridge it. Our organization is committed to making the performing arts more inclusive, especially for those who are often left out of the spotlight.
We aim to share the stage and the joy it brings with everyone.
